A garbage
disposer, like any mechanical or
electrical appliance, can cause
severe injury if proper safety
precautions fail to be practiced.

Disposer is Dead:
Disposer Hums but Fails to Grind:
Disposer Makes More Noise than
Usual:
Water Fails to Drain:
Disposer is Dead:
- Is the circuit breaker for the
disposal is tripped?
- Is the disposal's internal
circuit breaker is tripped. Look
for a little red button underneath
disposal and press it in. If it
was out, you'll hear it click when
you press it.
Disposer Hums but Fails to Grind:
- Something has jammed inside
the Garbage Disposer. Before
attempting to dislodge anything
make sure the power is turned off!
You may need to reset the circuit
breaker, too.
- If the disposal sounds rough
after running for several minutes,
then you'll need to replace it
soon.
Disposer Makes More Noise than
Usual:
- A piece of metal went down the
disposal. It may eventually work
itself out.
- The main bearings are wearing
out and disposal will need to be
replaced soon.
Water Fails to Drain:
The drain or garbage
disposer is clogged.
