The Whirlpool Refrigerator Water Filter 4396508 is a New and Improved filter that replaces the Whirlpool 4392857 Ice and Water filter. The 4396508 is certified to remove additional impurities. The 4392857 is no longer available.

This Whirlpool Refrigerator filter is interchangeable with the Whirlpool Ultimate Filter, which is certified to remove even more impurities - particularly Cysts, and several pesticides and herbicides.

The Whirlpool 4396508 filter fits most Whirlpool and KitchenAid refrigerators where the filter is located in the base grill (does not fit PUR equipped fridges).

This Whirlpool filter can be used in refrigerators with any of the following water filtration systems:

  • WF-NL240V or NL240V

This Whirlpool refrigerator water filter improves the taste and odor of the water and removes the following impurities:

  • 99.31% of Lead at pH 8.5
  • 96.22% of Mercury at pH 6.5

When should the Whirlpool 4396508 refrigerator filter be replaced?

This Whirlpool filter should be replaced:

  • Every 6 months or
  • When the filter change indicator light comes on or
  • If the refrigerator has not been used for more than two weeks (for instance, during a move) or
